1 John 1:2-“The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.”

The first thing that strikes me is that it says, “THE LIFE appeared.” This isn’t a life, but THE life. Jesus is the source of our life. Many people are chasing a counterfeit life. A life full of fun, happiness, drugs, sex, and whatever pleases for a moment. But to truly experience life as it was meant to be lived, Jesus must be there. It’s hard to explain this to folks who aren’t following Jesus. I would encourage you to ask God to help you understand what it means that Jesus is life. Ask God to enable you to act on this wonderful truth from the Bible. Jesus is life. This should impact our thoughts, emotions, actions, and speech. Don’t seek life from anywhere else.

The life found in Jesus is eternal. It never ends. Sometimes, when I’m driving through the flat lands of Nebraska, the vanishing point, where the road disappears, seems far away, almost unreachable. But I’m there if I wait a few minutes, and a new vanishing point appears. Eternal life is beyond the vanishing point. There is no vanishing point. It’s FOREVER! Thinking that this life not only goes on forever but starts right now is the cool part of following Jesus. It’s not just a ticket to a better place but access to a full life, here and now. Life is still going to be hard, and there are consequences for my behavior, but Jesus also promises that when we cry out to Him, when we earnestly seek Him, He takes our burdens. He takes our struggles. And He wins. Jesus is gentle, humble, and kind. That’s the life that appeared. That’s the life we proclaim. Jesus.
