I recently started researching the carnivore diet, and one of the aspects that stood out to me was the amount of salt you can have. Not only that, but there are also different types of salt. Growing up, the only salt we had was table salt. Then came Himalayan pink salt. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. There’s Baja gold, kosher, flake, black, Celtic, and many more. So, I got some to try. Who knew the variety of salt available?
When you become a follower of Jesus by trusting in Him for the forgiveness of your sin and choosing to surrender all of your life to Him, you become salt. Not literally a pillar of salt like Lot’s wife, but figuratively (side note-when did we lose all sense of meaning between the words literally and figuratively? It’s literally been the most annoying thing to me lately!)
Salt is good for a variety of things, such as adding taste and preserving food. How can a follower of Jesus be salt? One way is by adding flavor to those who are seeking the Lord. We do this through kindness and unconditional love. Some have mentioned that the Lord sprinkles His saints (That’s you! See yesterday’s post) around the world to prevent the erosion of Kingdom values (keep reading the Sermon on the Mount for those values), to stand against the overwhelming tide of inhumanity and oppression, and to prevent the deterioration of society.
We are salt by cooperating with the Holy Spirit and walking out God’s purpose for us. Much like there is a variety of salt, we are all unique individuals with a specific calling on our life. But when we are all being the salt, the world tastes better. Stay salty my friends.
Matthew 5:13-You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
