John 8:31-36: To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

When I was a kid, my dad often told me that if I always told the truth, I wouldn’t have to remember the lies I had told and to whom I had told them. You know how it goes. You tell one lie to someone and another lie to someone else, and the web of lies gets out of control. The truth is different. It should be easy to remember, and it is also costly sometimes. But the truth is worth it.

As a follower of Jesus, we are set free by the truth. What are we set free from? From sin, worry, doubt, and fear! Thank you, Jesus!

We are set free from sin because Jesus is known as “The way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6).

We are set free from worry because Jesus is our protector and provider.

We are set free from doubt because we trust in THE God of the universe.

We are set free from fear because the perfect love of Jesus casts out fear.

What a glorious truth about our identity. Let freedom ring!
