John 17:23: “I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
When Jesus prays, God the Father listens. When Jesus prays, you and I should perk up and pay attention. In this prayer, Jesus is asking the Father to unite us to Him and one another. That’s unity. That’s a promise to stand on. That’s an identity truth that we must not only believe in our heads but guide our hearts and hands. Jesus is not praying for uniformity; that would be boring and require us to deny part of our identity. Instead, Jesus is praying for unity. Unity in mind, unity in spirit, unity in mission.
There is some fascinating work being done in the field of neurotheology by Dr. Jim Wilder and the folks at Life Model Works, Deeper Walk, and Thrive. One area they are exploring is known as “mutual mind.” Can we be in a mutual mind state with God where His thoughts are our thoughts, and we can walk in His will and His ways in a deeper and more meaningful way? I believe that Jesus would answer with an enthusiastic YES because it would be an answer to His prayer in John 17. I’m including a link to a free seminar on “Thinking with God.” Enjoy!
