Romans 5:5: “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of “Christians” acting unloving towards neighbors and strangers. Love for others should be a defining characteristic of a follower of Jesus. When we are made new in Christ, our new heart should be overflowing with love for God and love for others.
What is love?
Love is meeting needs.
Love is a deep concern or compassion for others.
Love doesn’t mean you agree or condone everything that others do. It means you are there for them. You listen. You don’t judge or condemn. You show them the light, love, and light of Jesus! You serve them as best as you can.
The love that’s poured out into our hearts is God’s love. It’s pure. It’s perfect. It’s amazing in its effect on people.
The love that’s poured out into our hearts comes from the Holy Spirit. It’s first in the list of the fruit of the Spirit, followed closely by joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
The love that’s poured out into our hearts is a Hesed love. It’s a covenant love that is expressed in joy-“I’m glad to be with you!”
When we are in Christ, we should be known for our love. Now’s the time.
