Romans 6:3 “Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?”
Most people don’t like to think about death. There are many unknowns about what’s on the other side. For me, I don’t so much fear death (because I look forward to being in the presence of God), but I do fear the process of dying. It doesn’t sound like much fun.
However, one of the remarkable identity truths is that when we are in Christ, we have already died. We are dead to sin. We are dead to depression, anger, gluttony, addictions, and dead to satan’s power. It also means we are alive in Christ. Alive to joy, peace, happiness, love, kindness, and more. In Christ, our old self and sinful nature are dead. In Christ, we are alive and are saints.
That’s a good death.
I once suffered through the Brad Pitt movie “Legends of the Fall.” One of the last lines in the movie is, “It was a good death.” I think they missed the point.
Christ’s death was good.
The death of our old nature is good.
They are only good because they result in new life in Christ.
As 2024 dies tonight, remember that tomorrow brings forth a new year. Let’s resolve to make 2025 a year of living out our true Identities in Christ.
