Romans 6:4: “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

In the last #IdentityTruth blog, we saw how we were baptized into Christ’s death. Much like Christ didn’t stay dead (He is risen!), we don’t either. When the old man dies, a new man is born. This new life is something to be celebrated. This new life is part of our identity.

One of the most annoying parts of my personality is that I don’t buy used. I have to buy new (with one rare exception-books, but even then, they can’t have writing or highlighting, they must be “like new”). I like new clothes, new shoes, new toys, new cars (although I can’t afford them), new, new, new.

So, what does a new life look like? I believe it starts with purpose. No longer are you looking to satisfy the desires of your flesh, but you are looking to please God the Father. No longer are you looking to live independently of God, but you are looking to live a new life entirely dependent upon Him.

A new life also reorients what you value. It isn’t about your time, your money, or your energy. But it’s about when and where God wants you to serve Him and His kingdom.

A new life means you are not your own.

A new life means you are a steward, not an owner.

A new life means your source of truth and authority is the Word of God.

A new life is lived in the light, love, and life of Jesus. Not in the darkness of this world.

A new life means you recognize that you are not your Savior. You are not Lord of your life. You are not the King. You depend on the Savior, Jesus. He is Lord and King.

He is also your friend.

What a great new life this is!
