Romans 6:11: “In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

I remember when The Walking Dead TV show first came out. It was gruesome, gross, and very bloody. All the things I don’t like. But I couldn’t stop watching. There was something intriguing about the concept of dead people being able to walk and move around (not to mention eat…). But it wasn’t reality. When you are dead, your body doesn’t walk, run, eat, or talk. You are by definition lifeless. Before we trust and follow Christ, that’s how we are. Dead. Not living. But then, God saves us. He transfers us from the darkness to light. We become dead to sin, but alive to God! What an amazing identity truth. Our life is now found in the living God because God is not a God of the dead, but of the living (Mark 12:27). This new life in Christ is to be enjoyed, it’s fresh, strong, powerful, and adventurous. We often think our eternal life starts when we physically die, but that’s not true! Our eternal life in Christ starts the moment we believe. That’s true life. That’s the “Walking Life” we are called to and equipped to live. It’s a life worthy of the sacrifice of Christ. And it’s ours to live. Thank you, Jesus!
