Before I became a Christian and fully understood what happened on Good Friday, I was a bit creeped out by all of the hymns about blood. “Nothing But the Blood,” “Are you Washed in the Blood?,” “Covered in the Blood,” and many others. But now that I understand “without the shedding of blood, there can be no forgiveness of sins” (Hebrews 9:22), I am forever grateful for those hymns which remind us of what Jesus did. Jesus was the last sacrifice that was required because He was the perfect, unblemished sacrifice, given up once and for all.
Romans 3:25a: “For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.”
