I am growing increasingly grieved over the division in this country. I’m not talking about the political division (although that deeply grieves me too-but that discussion is for another day), but the economic division. This is not the place to argue about capitalism or socialism either. I’m talking about how we view and treat others from different economic “classes.” The fact that we even divide the country into these two groups is disheartening. Sometimes, the poor shows contempt for the rich, and the rich disdain the poor. This should not be! What the Bible condemns is the oppression of the poor and favoritism of the rich. If we genuinely believe that every person is made in the image of God, our attitudes and actions towards our fellow man should be filled with grace, truth, love, and equity. The Royal Law (Love your neighbor as yourself) does not include a provision for income.
Proverbs 22:2: “The rich and poor have this in common: The Lord made them both.”
