MWM: God’s Work

Do you ever get exhausted? At the end of a long day of long, hard, physical labor, do you just collapse and say, “No more!”? I used to think that it was my hard work for God that would earn me divine favor. I would say that my salvation depended entirely upon Christ’s work on the cross and then work as if it depended on me. It was tiring. Then I realized the full implications of God’s grace. God begins the good work, and what God starts, he finishes. Praise God! I could now obey and work out of love and devotion, not to earn anything. The chains are broken, the yoke is lifted. I am free! And I will stay free because of Christ.

Philippians 1:6: “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”
