Woe is me! Whenever something terrible happens in life, what is our response? Is it to play the victim? Blame others? Wallow in self-pity? Or, do we see it as an opportunity for growth? Perhaps we see adversity as a chance to demonstrate our resolve. The Apostle Paul had one mission: to make Jesus known. Paul was beaten, stoned, shipwrecked, bitten by snakes, abandoned by friends, and more. Yet, he lived to tell the world about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Paul saw every life circumstance through the lens of mission. Even when he was in prison, he shared the gospel. Are we going through a trial right now? Yes. But are we using this time to drown in sorrow, anger, and bitterness? Or, are we spreading the good news of the free gift of forgiveness that is available only through Jesus Christ? Let’s have some perspective, please.
Philippians 1:12: “And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News.”
