One of my favorite scenes in the movie Shawshank Redemption is when the prisoners are all sitting around talking to the new “fish” about why they are in prison. Andy Dufresne leans over and says, “don’t you know, I’m innocent.” Spoiler Alert (as if there is anybody who hasn’t seen this movie. By the way, the book is better; it is one of Stephen King’s short stories in Different Seasons, along with the tale Apt Pupil which is an underrated movie. But I’m off on a tangent now!): Andy is innocent of the crime. When the Apostle Paul was in prison, he made sure everyone knew what he was in for and who he represented: Jesus Christ. Paul was willing to go to prison for what he believed. Are you? Are you willing to fly the banner of a Christ-follower? I’m not talking about the fish on your car or the picture of your Bible with your journal and coffee mug next to it. Those are good but amount to nothing if you aren’t willing to bear the marks of a martyr for Jesus. Let everyone know to whom you belong, whether in prison or on the street.
Philippians 1:13: “For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ.”
