If you had all of the power in the world, would you give it up? If you could know, see, and hear everything that was ever said all at once and not forget any of it, would you give up that ability? Jesus was God and had divine privileges that extend further and farther than you and I can imagine. When He became a man, he gave that up! Why? Jesus did this to show us how to be a servant to others. Jesus set the example by momentarily laying aside his self-interests (but not his divinity) to think of others in a real, practical way. You see, you and I often give lip service to thinking of others. It is okay in an abstract sense. But not when real sacrifice is required. Jesus didn’t pretend to be a servant; he was a servant! May our attitude reflect this as well. May we be a servant to others, in action and not just word.
Philippians 2:7a: “Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.”
