Could you imagine having a disagreement with someone that was so monumental it made it into the Bible for all generations to hear about?!? Well, it happened. We don’t know the disagreement’s content, but Paul heard about it and didn’t like it. Now, I’ve had some epic arguments with people, but nothing that transcends time and culture. One thing that grieves my heart is how much in-fighting there is in Christian circles. Yes, we have sincere and critical theological differences. Yes, we need to be discussing them. Yes, the world needs to know that there are some wolves in sheep’s clothing. However, just because you disagree with someone on a minor theological point doesn’t make them a heretic. What if we were gracious with those with disagree with? What if our speech was kind, compassionate, yet firm? What if we sought reconciliation and restoration? I think the watching world would be surprised. So would I. Be a peacemaker.
Philippians 4:2: “Now I appeal to Euodia and Syntyche. Please, because you belong to the Lord, settle your disagreement.”
