MWM: Staying True

What is the truth? This question is going to become more critical than ever in our fast-moving and progressive society. Simply put, truth is conformity to fact. Truth is what is real, regardless of what we think we know or how we feel. We don’t get to define our own truth. One of the most challenging concepts for my philosophy students to grasp is the reality that truth, and the standard by which we measure truth, cannot come from within us. It is dangerous to have an internal compass of truth. In today’s verse, Paul is encouraging the follower of Christ to stay faithful to the Lord. We should keep our eyes on Jesus.  Staying true includes following the Lord’s commands, believing His Word, embracing His priorities, loving His people, and following His example. Christ is the true north for the Christian to follow because of His life, death, burial, and resurrection and the fact that Jesus claimed to be the truth (John 14:6)!

Philippians 4:1: “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stay true to the Lord. I love you and long to see you, dear friends, for you are my joy and the crown I receive for my work.”
