MWM: Looking for Peace

One year on Christmas, the only thing I asked for was “Peace on Earth.” My parents bought me a giant banner with the phrase on it and said it was as close as I was going to get. I don’t remember if they got me anything else, but I’m sure they did. At my dad’s memorial, a good friend asked if I had peace in my heart. We all are looking for peace. Whether it is peace in our marriage, life, country, job, or social group, it seems peace is lacking. When we experience God’s peace, we know it. Sometimes it is a quiet settling in our spirit, and other times God’s peace hits us like the wave of an ocean. I like the Jewish concept of peace. It is called shalom. Shalom is more than just the absence of conflict or anxiety; it involves wholeness, harmony, and delight. God promises that His peace will protect our hearts and minds like a sentry standing guard. This promise is realized as we live in Christ Jesus. If you need peace in your life, look to Jesus!

Philippians 4:7: “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
