I’m a sporadic weightlifter. I am consistent for a month or two and then take some time off. It is embarrassing to say how much, so I won’t. When I return to the weights, I inevitably try to pick back up right where I left off. It hurts. It doesn’t work. It is discouraging because I should be able to lift more! What happens when we stop exercising? Our muscles atrophy. What happens when we stop using our minds? They atrophy as well. Be honest, how many of you have had trouble doing simple math while trying to help your kids during quarantine? The reason this happens is that if you don’t use it, you lose it. To stay in shape physically, mentally, and spiritually, we have to “keep putting into practice all you learned.” This means continual action, continual practice, continual movement. If you’ve been out of the gym for a while, when is the best time to go back? NOW! If you’ve been out of the spiritual gym (church) for a bit, flex your muscles and get back there! Stop putting it off and return to the community that misses you.
Philippians 4:9: “Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.”
