Luke 9:20a: “Then Jesus asked them, ‘But who do you say I am?’”
One of the most important questions we can ask ourselves is, “who is Jesus?” Our answer to that one question determines our eternal destiny. You don’t want to get this wrong! Just before Jesus asked His disciples this question, He asked them, “Who do people say I am?” After His disciples tell Him what the world thinks, Jesus moves on as if He doesn’t care what the world thinks. Jesus is more interested in the personal answer to the question. Believing in the person and work of Jesus Christ has implications for life here on earth and what comes next. I recently preached on the core belief and core value regarding Jesus at Freedom Church. Here is our simple statement: “We believe Jesus, the eternal God, became man, died and rose again for sinful mankind. Therefore, we will trust Him and take this good news to the world.” If you’d like to read a more detailed explanation, here is an article my friend Jerry and I wrote a few years ago.
