Psalm 5:2: “Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you.”
David was always in danger from his nefarious enemies, yet he remained confident in Gods’ ability to prevail. He prayed this prayer in the mornings to express his confidence in the access he had to God. David prayed for divine leadership, blessings for the righteous, and destruction for the wicked. He implored God to simply listen. He didn’t pray to “the universe” or some patron saint; he went directly and solely to God. We should too. We have access to the holy and righteous God because of Jesus’ finished work on the cross. Even though we mess up and are tainted by sin, when we believe in Jesus, all of that is washed away, we are cleansed, and we can stand before God knowing that Jesus makes us whole and right. That is why we can cry for help and know that God hears us.
