I had a friend who lived in Kansas, and he always asked the joking question, “Why aren’t there any mountains in Kansas?” His answer: “Because we have a lot of faith and have prayed and moved them to Colorado!” He thought it was hilarious. It comes from the context of today’s verse where Jesus says if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can pray and move mountains. This is one instance where we need to take in the “whole counsel of Scripture” because there are qualifications on praying for just “anything.” Prayer must be in line with God’s will, and our hearts must be surrendered to His timing and His way. We also need to ensure there isn’t anything that would hinder our prayers, such as unconfessed sin or marital strife. This promise of God is one where you can find hope and encouragement. God loves to answer prayers!
Dear Father, thank you for the blessing of prayer. Thank you for listening and answering prayer. We submit the answers to Your will, ways, and timing. Help us to have faith upon faith so we can rest in our hope that is found in You. Amen.
Matthew 21:22: “You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.”
