Pray31 – Day 14: Luke 5:16

Jesus’ prayer life always fascinated me. He was eternal and an intimate member of the Godhead, living in perfect harmony with the Father and Holy Spirit, yet Jesus spent time alone with them in communion. If Jesus needed to get away and pray, how much do we need to? When was the last time you withdrew to the wilderness? You shouldn’t skip over the little word “often” in this verse. It was a regular pattern of Jesus’ to get away, unplug for the world, and connect with the heavenly. Someone once told me, “When God is present in our rest, he becomes more present in our work.” We MUST follow Jesus’ example and get into the wilderness.

Father God, thank you for the example Jesus gives us for withdrawing from the busyness of life to connect with You. May we be able to slow down, stop, breathe, and listen to You in an intentional time away from life’s happenings. Help us make it a regular rhythm in our life and the life of our family. Amen.

Luke 5:16: “But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.”
