To whom or to what are you devoted? Devotion is steadfast attention. What has your undivided attention? Is it the latest technological gadget? The newest TV show or movie? Is it a person in your life, your spouse, kids, or your boss? Another aspect of devotion is to persevere in some activity. To what do you devote your time? In the early church, their devotion centered on community with other believers. They were dedicated to teaching, fellowship, food, and prayer. Does that characterize your faith family? If not, you need to ask what the heartbeat of your church is. I do know that when the awe of the glory of God grips a church, it is something to behold.
Father God, thank you, again, for the opportunity we have to pray. I ask that Your Glory fills every heart of every believer in the church. Forgive us where we have strayed from the simple church practices of worship, teaching, fellowship, and prayer. Help us get back in line with Your Word and Your Heart. Amen.
Acts 2:42: “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.”
