Romans is one of my favorite books in the Bible. It is one of the most profound theological books ever written. Paul gives an unapologetic presentation of the gospel. You can spend your entire life studying it and never scratch the surface. In Romans 12, Paul encourages the believer in Christ to be a living sacrifice to God. We are instructed not to copy the world but be transformed by renewing our minds. We are also told to be honest in our evaluation of our sinful nature and be faithful to God. We learn how we are one part of the body of Christ and have been given a gift to bless others. Paul is adamant that we love others, hate what is wrong, cling to good, work hard, avoid laziness, and the list goes on and on. In the middle of these commands, Paul simply tells us to “keep on praying.” Prayer was at the center of Paul’s life and ministry. Prayer should be at the core of who we are as well. Keep on keeping on, in prayer!
Dear God, help us to be people of prayer. Help us to keep on praying in the midst of trouble, heartache, and the stress of life. Give us hope, patience, and trust. Show us the way! Amen.
Romans 12:12: “Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.”
