Here is another excellent example of the Apostle Paul as a pray-er. So often, when we intercede and pray for others, we focus on the physical, emotional, and material needs: healing, health, job, money, courage, comfort, etc. However, when you read the Bible’s prayers, the majority of them focus on spiritual needs: salvation, sanctification, glorification, empowerment, trust, faith, etc. As you pray for others this week, may you focus on real, spiritual needs first and foremost. Then you can pray for the God of the universe to meet the other needs and desires.
Father God, I pray that we would be able to discern others’ spiritual needs and then offer those prayers to you in faith and trust. Help us to focus on what matters for eternity. Thank you for Jesus’ sacrifice that makes it possible for us to hope in eternity and look forward to His return and reign. Amen.
Ephesians 3:16-17: “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.”
