Pray31 – Day 25: Philippians 4:6

I’ve always wondered why Paul could make this command with such ease. I mean, does he even know what life is like? Worry seems natural. There is so much that could go wrong on a minute-by-minute basis! Doesn’t Paul know we have other things to do than bow our head in prayer 24/7? This command seems so burdensome, almost impossible. But if you know Paul’s life, you would know that his physical, emotional, and spiritual battles pale compared to what you or I may face. Just his physical abuse alone was tremendous: stoning, shipwrecked, bitten by a snake, beaten with whips five times, robbed, beaten up, and the list goes on and on. Not to mention the three days he spent blinded by an encounter with Jesus Christ! His encouragement to us? Don’t worry. Pray. Thank God for what he’s done for you. Thank you, Paul, I think I will!

Father God, thank You for all that You’ve done for me and continue to do. I don’t deserve any of it. I’m sorry for the moments I’ve chosen to worry over faith. Help me to make prayer my first response to adversity. Amen.

Philippians 4:6: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”
