James. The brother of Jesus. There is a lot of “tradition” surrounding him. One involves his calloused knees. He spent so much time in prayer that his knees were pretty tough. Another tradition is that he was thrown off a building, survived the fall, and then went to his knees in prayer as they beat him to death. Talk about a pray-er! James not only talked the talk about praying, but he also walked the walk. This past year has been very challenging and a great revealer of our hearts. Has your prayer life grown since COVID started? How have you had to rely on the power and presence of God? Were you able to sing praises in those joyous moments, even if they were few and far between?
Father God, thank you for the reminder that we are to express our devotion through prayers and praise in our sufferings, sorrows, and joys. Help us to turn to you first. Amen.
James 5:13: “Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises.”
