Pray31 – Day 29: James 5:16

This is the only place in the New Testament where we are commanded to confess to one another. Everywhere else, we take confession straight to God. If our sin has impacted others, we should confess and do what we can to set things right. Confession is simply agreeing with God about your sin. There are several keys to confession: vulnerability, humility, and openness. Similarly, you should note that confession leads to prayer, not gossip, slander, or mockery. A righteous person is committed to doing God’s will and to cultivating a relationship with God that knows God’s heart. Our fervent prayers are effective, there is power in prayer!

Father God, we confess our sin to You and others so our prayers can be heard and bring healing. May we be ruthless in rooting out sin in our lives and lifting each other up in intercessory prayer. We praise you that Jesus Christ is our intercessor because of His death and resurrection over 2000 years ago. Amen.

James 5:16: “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”
