Simple Prayers

When I first became a Christian, I was impressed by my pastors’ long and powerful prayers. I wanted to learn how to pray like them. One of them encouraged me to read the prayers in the Bible. I was shocked! Most of the prayers in Scripture are very short and straightforward. The one from today’s verse is only three words. This mother was at the end of her rope in seeking help and healing for her demon-possessed daughter. She ran to Jesus, begged, and pleaded multiple times for Jesus to deliver her daughter. Jesus answered her simple prayer, and her daughter was immediately made whole. I wonder how many times God is listening to our prayers and wants to yell, “hurry up and ask already!” Not that God gets impatient, but that we take our sweet time in getting to the point. Yes, there is a time to wrestle and struggle in long prayer, but there are times where we just need to cry out for help. May you know where to find hope, and may you run to Him with every detail of your life.

Matthew 15:25: “But she came and worshiped him, pleading again, ‘Lord, help me!’”
