Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “The time is always right to do what is right.” When I was in the Air Force, one of the core values was Integrity First. Everything the AF did was supposed to stem from being honest and from moral principles. In other words, we were to do the right thing all the time, even if nobody was looking. Growing up, I learned that I wouldn’t have to remember what lie(s) I said to whom if I always told the truth. When I ask my philosophy students what the word “value” means to them, most of them mention either family or integrity (and some mention both). Why does our society put so much emphasis on honesty, integrity, and character? Because it matters! When we walk through life as people of integrity, a corrupt and broken world will notice. Not only that, but our children learn from us as well. If we want a more honest society, it starts with us. Then we train our kids.
Proverbs 20:7: “The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.”
Another good one !
