Proverbs 1:7: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

Many people use the new year to set goals or make resolutions. Most of these involve some grand gesture or require incredible effort. This is why more fail or give up quickly. I changed my approach to goals and resolutions to acquiring small habits a few years ago. Instead of focusing on the big goal (i.e.-lose 50 pounds), I focused on what I could do THAT day (drink a large glass of water before meals, eat an apple every day, etc.).

One of the more popular goals in my circle of family and friends is to read through the Bible in a year. YES! That’s a big goal. And a noble one. But it is often overwhelming because the Bible contains 1,189 chapters in 66 books! However, if you break it down into daily work, it only takes 15 minutes a day. This is entirely possible, especially if you are addicted to doom-scrolling or watching reels.

We want to read God’s Word, understand His truth, and be changed by it. These 15 minutes a day will bring about more change in your life than anything else you do this year. Develop a daily pattern of pulling basic truths from the Bible and applying them to your life.

But wait, there’s more! The Bible wasn’t intended to be read, studied, and applied simply by yourself. There’s intense power in engaging the Bible in community. So, read and talk about the Bible with your family, friends, or coworkers. Find some folks at church. If you don’t have a faith family, find one! Join us at Freedom Church.
