Some call it humble pie. It is what you taste when you think you know all of the answers and refuse to listen and then fall flat on your face. The Bible has a lot to say about pride, and none of it is good. Webster (1828) defined pride: “Inordinate self-esteem; an unreasonable conceit of one’s own superiority in talents, beauty, wealth, accomplishments, rank or elevation in office, which manifests itself in lofty airs, distance, reserve, and often in contempt of others.” Pride infects our very souls. When we view ourselves as better than others, it grieves God’s heart because it goes against God’s very nature. God is love, not pride.
Proverbs 13:10: “Pride leads to conflict; those who take advice are wise.”
