When the church prays, things happen. The world is changed, and people are transformed. After the first Pentecost, the church was experiencing increasing persecution. They were threatened in every town they went to because they challenged the status quo and preached the gospel of Jesus Christ. When the gospel is preached, people face the reality of sin and their need for a savior other than themselves. Pride, selfishness, addictions, gluttony, laziness, and more are confronted everywhere the Bible’s truth is proclaimed. It shouldn’t surprise us. Our reaction to persecution should first and foremost be fervent prayer. Ask God to do the miraculous and then wait for His power to be made evident.
Father God, we submit to Your perfect will. We ask that You watch for threats against Your kids and Your church. Give us boldness in preaching. Show us your power through healings and life change. Amen.
Acts 4:31: “After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.”
