I used to be obsessed with the American Dream. Work hard, make lots of money, and spend it on the perfect house, white picket fence, cars, and a boat. I’m not sure if every American includes a boat in their list, but I did. Not surprisingly, a large portion of the American Dream hasn’t worked out for me. I’m okay with that. How about you? Are you content with where God has you? If you have to skip a meal or not buy something you want, does it bother you? I know it is a bit ironic talking about contentment right after we celebrated the birth of Jesus by buying ourselves lots of stuff we don’t need. I pray that we learn contentment in 2021, and not just saying we are content, but knowing it in the way Paul talks about it.
Philippians 4:12: “I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.”
